Why doesn’t Mars get as cold as -300 degrees F?

answers:
Lôn say: It's too close to the sun.
-
Dport say: Mars has an atmosphere. Earth's moon actually gets colder than Mars due to the lack of an atmosphere. Mars is mostly CO2, over 90%, therefore it can absorb and retain radiation.
-
STEPHEN say: Because Mars, although further from the sun than earth, still receives energy from the sun that keeps it up to -273F.
-
az_lender say: Sunlight is absorbed by rocks on Mars during the daytime, and also by the thin CO2 atmosphere there. At night and in winter, the atmosphere retains some of the heat absorbed when the sun is shining.
-
Sharon say: same reason that the Earth doesn't: both are too close to the Sun. In fact, so is Jupiter.
-
Ronald 7 say: Mars is located inside the Ice Line which only begins on the outer side of the Asteroid Belt
The Sun's Rays still warm it
If Mars had a decent Atmosphere, it would be Warmer
A copious supply of CO2 would do the job
-
ReductioAdAstronomicus say: It is a long way from the sun, and has no atmosphere to insulate it.
-
In say: The temperature ranges from 68 F to -243 F.
-
regerugged say: It has an atmosphere, but very thin.
