can we artificially bend space?......

can we artificially bend space?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
YKhan say: Energy can also bend spacetime, not just mass. Einstein's previous work showed that mass and energy are equivalent.
-
Deepinthaharta say: Technically we already bend matter with the Earth.
-
Jeffrey K say: Only gravity can bend space. In fact, gravity is the curvature of space. Gravity can only be created by matter or energy.
-
Tom say: I read YEARS ago that rotating wheels with magnetic poles affixed to the rims demonstrated some space curvature along the edges, as evidenced by bent light along the edges.----It had something to do with "invisibility experiments".---Trying to bend light around objects so they could not be seen
-
Ronald 7 say: I would sure like to know how
-
nineteenthly say: Yes, we do it all the time when we concentrate mass in a small volume.
-
daniel g say: Space is defined as 'void of any matter' nothing there to bend.
-
say: anytime you move anything with mass, you are bending space. merely shifting your position in your chair artificially alters the curvature of space.

@zardoz: by definition anything and everything humans do is artificial, even inadvertent modifications to space-time curvature.
-
quantumclaustrophobe say: Well... the only way we know of is through gravity.  And everything made of matter has gravity - you do, the book on your desk, and your house all bend space through gravity.
-
Cord say: No we have to do it naturally
-
Nicholas say: It's possible..............
-
Adullah M say: Yes why not ,if I can bend it no one would ever see it.
-
sparrow say: Probably, but we just don't know how, yet. Plus, it might tear the fabric of space,
so it doesn't seem like a good idea.
-
Nikki say: i was thinking of building my own "truck-mounted laser weapon" to fight-off the zombie apocalypse using high energy magnets. you know magnets like those the bullet-trains use, only with super-cooled magnets to bend light into a tight beam.
when light is around the sun or a black-hole the gravity energy is like a magnet and bends light and space to itself.
this could be done with ulta-cold nitrogen cooled magnets and a super-big electric source.
however, i would need a great big truck to carry all of this equipment, or maybe a flat-bed train car.
the russians however, used a ruby crystal and mathematically-aligned mirrors to focus a high intensity light beam into a much smaller space creating a laser.
i am afraid they are ahead in the race to build a good laser to fight the zombie hordes. this is why we loaded the laser-truck with cases of beer.

Who say: you do it automatically

mass bends space

you have mass therefore you bend space

(it may not be much but you DO bend it)
-
ReductioAdAstronomicus say: No.

"bent" space has never been observed.
-
Zirp say: Nobody has any idea idea how to do that
-
John say: Theoretically, warp engines would bend space around a spaceship. This would create a warp bubble which would propel the ship faster than light. This engine would most likely have to powered by some kind of fusion process. There are two possibilities. One would be what goes on in stars, when hydrogen atoms are fused to create helium atoms. The other is to fuse matter and anti-matter. Either way, tremendous amount of energy would be released, which theoretically would send out enough energy to cause space to curve.
-
Campbell Hayden say: There are no 'artificial' means by which to bend space.
In other words, when you bend space ... you bend space.
-
Nyx say: Anything with mass, can bend spacetime.

-
Zardoz say: That would be artificial gravity. We can't do that.
