Nye the Socialist is trying to tell Trump to fund manned Mars missions. Oh yes, a suicide mission designed to bankrupt NASA.. Is he an enemy to science?

But rest easy. There is zero chance that Trump will give the nod to any manned Mars mission.
If I recall, Trump has vowed to make America great again. But reality bites. In a 4 year presidential term, it is simply not possible to turn around the fortunes of America.
If it was possible, then dramatic changes would already have been made. --- Like making tertiary education free for anyone who was interested in enrolling.
Where we are now, is that there might be manned probe to orbit Mars (without any landing) in about 2040, followed by a landing on Mars some time after that. And that scenario relies on politicians voting money over the next 20 years or so.
And bear in mind that currently we lack a vehicle to put a man into low earth orbit, let alone send someone to Mars.
The next 10 years is likely to see our competitor China, put people on the moon. China has a program in place to do this. If they are successful with a moon landing, I expect they will follow it up with missions to Mars, and that they will be first on Mars.
That will be somewhat irksome to NASA and the USA. But that appears to be where we are headed.
