I know that there is a solar storm tonight and have heard that the northern lights may be visible outside of where they usually are. I looked outside and saw small "spotlight-like" white lights moving across the sky in a wavy motion. sometimes every second another crosses, sometimes there're a few seconds in between. i don't think that this is the northern lights, but can anyone tell me what it is? i'd love to know

There is a Full Moon tonight, which would make any Northern Lights very hard to see. Aurora is usually green in colour.

To see the Aurora you need to be at a high Latitude, Like in Alaska or Canada.

What you are looking at could be two things: airplanes or satelites.

The northern lights usually are not white and do not look like shooting "Stars, satellites or planes. Aurora are usually red or combination red and green, sometimes with blue. WHERE are you approximately. Space Weather has the current aural oval If you ar in or north of Nebraska you might be seeing the northern lights, but not if you are farther south. I have seen the northern lights a very few times in 61 years because i'm usually to far south in Oklahoma , southwestern Kansas a or south eastern Louisiana, beut i have seen the northern lights (they were red) a few times in central Oklahoma, and once in New orleans MANY years ago.
