What does your body burn if it doesn't have enough glucose?

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 14-06-15] [Hit: ]
BTW, this is for my dieting purposes, but Im putting it under biology because I assume (perhaps incorrectly), that I will get better responses. AKA this isnt for homework. It uses fat first then after protein.......
After your body has depleted glucose and glycogen stores, does it turn to fat or protein for energy first? Please provide the source of your information - preferably a scientific article. I will not award best answer if there is no legitimate source (ie. no wikipedia).

It uses fat first then after protein. In general almost all body organells are composed of proteins.so using protein is just like destroying owns body parts.

The order is carbs, fats, and protein.

Here is an article

When glucose and glycogen stores are depleted from dieting or fasting and exercise the first regulated reaction is the breakdown of triglycerides in adipocytes (fat cells).

Lipid lipolysis (breakdown) => glycerol for gluconeogenesis in liver => glucose to bloodstream => cellular respiration for ATP.

Gluconeogenesis is a synthesis pathway of glucose from noncarbohydrate organic precursors; the conversion of glycerol backbone (from triglyceride lipids) or finally from amino acids (from proteins) into glucose.

Gluconeogenesis enzyme activity in the liver is blocked unless starving or excessive exercise prevents glycolysis of carbohydrates in the usual process of cellular respiration because there are no available carbohydrates anymore. Then the body scavenges fat stores to keep blood sugar for the brain to function and muscles to work. This is the bonk athletes experience if they do not eat while exercising. In starving it will also scavenge muscle tissues for amino acid carbon skeletons for glucose biosynthesis by gluconeogenesis.
