What will you say if E=mc^2 was proven wrong..........

As a physicist, I think other explanations will be found for the apparent speed of neutrinos, and that E=mc^2 will not be proven wrong. All the evidence accrued over a hundred years or so has confirmed it's accuracy to about 99.93%. In common with many physicists, including, incidentally, those who announced the anomaly, I suspect an error will be found in the measurements made. When you are dealing with time periods of around a 6 billionth of a second, the smallest error is magnified. The real problem lies with the fact that neutrinos carry information. Faster than light travel would have that information arriving at it's destination before it actually left. Also, it would play havoc for similar reasons, with cause and effect., which we do not see in the real world. Every event has a cause which must precede it.

What will you say if E=mc^2 proven wrong?

What's the alternative then?
Because I'd love to see how you explain all the useful results special relativity has provided.

Personally, I enjoy seeing scientific theories develop and improve. But to just jump at the first result coming out of a scientific experiment and yell "EINSTEIN IZ WROANG!" shows that you have no grasp of how science works. Who has the greatest fault for that misconception, scientists, teachers, or people themselves -- that's a subject open for discussion (in another thread, please, and out of an Astronomy forum).

EDIT: Someone will get a big shiny thumbs up if they can spot my sarcasm.

Being serious though, I am used to seeing scientific theories being revised from time to time, but then again, I am not a physicist.

I guess I would be pretty mad since millions of textbooks based on Einstein's equation "E=mc2" would have to be rewritten.
