The first two posters have it correct (and identically so...) A star's color is based on it's surface temperature; a cooler star tends toward red, and hotter stars tend towards blue. The Sun is a dwarf star, really shining almost a pure-white light, but, like the above posters have said, through our atmosphere, the color appears yellow.

Actually, the Sun isn’t yellow. Seen from space, the Sun looks almost pure white. The Earth’s atmosphere blocks some of the spectrum of light coming from the Sun so that it appears yellow from here on the surface of the Earth.
