Look, I'm 39. I have an MA and a good job. I know a few things about life- not everything, but a few. 1) Being poor will make you unhappy but once you're middle class or above the difference in happiness is minimal. What I mean is this. Let's say being neutral on the happiness scale is 0, being the unhappiest person in the world is -100 and being the happiest is +100. Being poor, that is not being able to afford the necessities of life, living hand to mouth, being hungry because you can't buy food, being afraid of being homeless because you're going to be evicted- that's going to put you around -10. Being a multi-billionaire, being able to buy and sell every person you meet- that's going to put you around +10. The rest of it is up to you. How many close friendships do you have? Are they true and loyal? Are you in love? Does the person you love love you back? Are you in good health? Are your loved ones in good health? How's the weather where you live? Do you do a job you LOVE or a job you hate? These things make a MUCH bigger difference than money once you have enough money to be middle class.
Look, being poor sucks, but being rich isn't that much better than being middle class. I know at age 14 or whatever it seems like it MUST be better but being rich has it's own problems- not the least of which is that you will NEVER ever know if your friends are true friends or money grubbers, you will NEVER know if your girlfriend is a gold-digger. You think you're going to know, but you won't. Greedy people are great actors.
I say go for meteorology. You can work for any number or weather services or for the government without having to go on-air. Of course, by the time you hit 25 or so, the age when you might be able to finish school and get a job as a meteorologist you may find that you would really like being on tv. Also, I think they make enough money to be upper middle class and really that's all you need for happiness.
