I say it's diffraction, C)
A) what is it reflecting off of? This cannot be right
B) refraction is when a wave hits another medium that allows the wave to propagate at a different speed--this doesn't happen for this situation.
D) interference...I don't have a good answer for this because diffraction is caused by interference.
E) well it's definitely not A) or B)
AB) maybe...
In all honesty, this happens because of Huygen's principle. A wave can be thought of as propagating in all directions at each point along the wave front. Because of this, once the wave reaches the corner, it begins to propagate in all directions which includes in the direction around the corner!
The reason I chose diffraction is that diffraction is based on this very principle.
