Because "talking" is the way humans communicate. Many other organisms communicate in all sorts of different ways - even plants have been found to communicate. We don't call this "talking" because we reserve that word for our own form of communication but that doesn't mean that any other form of communication is any less valid.

Animals do speak. They just don't speak orally the way humans do. They can't speak humanspeak due to the structure of their vocal cords and tongue. The great apes, like baboons and gorillas, can be quite proficient in sign language once they are taught.

Koko, a gorilla, knows at least 1000 different signs. She does not mere copy the signs that her keepers make, but is able to speak using ASL, and can invent words based on combinations of signs she already knows.

Zoologists have long ago figured out that animals have their own languages. Whales sing, and can repeat the songs of another whale or pod. They can also make changes and pass the new song on.

I talked to my friend Skye Ocarnzas' cat one, we were chasing a fly. But after we were tired I joked about being able to talk 2 cats so I asked his cat to help us find it but I didn't mean to talk! I said Can you help us with the fly, but said it in a meowing way, when I did she gave a long purr than lead us to the fly and skye killed it! I've talken to his cat 2 or 3 times after words.

Animals do talk in there own way... Like for example a female deer she'll do a estrus bleat in the rut when she wants to mate. Or a male deer will grunt when he wants to challenge another buck. They communicate in there own way. Also Body Posture is another way they communicate.

Physically impossible without the right vocal chords, teeth, and mouth shape to make the right sounds. Brain size is a problem too, as most animals are not mentally equipped to learn a spoken language.

I think a few gorillas have been taught sign language at least.

Why do you think other animal species can't talk?
There is a great deal of communication in most species. No, it isn't in English.
