Okay so in this assignment we have to graph a parabola and then convert it from general form which is y = a(x - h)^2 + k and put it into standard form which is ax^2 + bx + c. So far I've graphed my parabola in general form but I can't switch it to standard I've tried. ):
My general form equation is y = -1(x - 5)^2 + 5. I just need to know how to convert is to standard form. Thank you for any help!! :)

x-5 whole square = x2-10x+25
multiplying it with -1 gives -x2+10x-25 adding 5 to it makes
-x2+10x-20
so in this case a = -1, b=10 and c=-20

Just expand bracket, multiply everything in it by -1, then add 5:
y = −1(x − 5)² + 5
y = −1(x − 5)(x − 5) + 5
y = −(x² − 10x + 25) + 5
y = −x² + 10x − 25 + 5
y = −x² + 10x − 20
y = −1(x − 5)² + 5
y = −1(x − 5)(x − 5) + 5
y = −(x² − 10x + 25) + 5
y = −x² + 10x − 25 + 5
y = −x² + 10x − 20
-
y = - 1(x - 5)² + 5
y = - (x² - 10x + 25) + 5
y = - x² + 10x - 25 + 5
y = - x² + 10x - 20
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
y = - (x² - 10x + 25) + 5
y = - x² + 10x - 25 + 5
y = - x² + 10x - 20
