Do you think some people know that they don't really have paranormal abilities but ...

.... don't want to admit it even to themselves?

The reason I ask is this that many people claim to have paranormal abilities but if you ask them to do any sort of test to prove it the vast majority immediately back away and make excuses.
Surely if they truly believed in it themselves they would be happy to at least try and show you evidence.

If a person says they are good at math for example it is rare for them to refuse to do any sort of math test because they honestly believe they can do sums and get them right.

I wonder if paranormal believers refuse the test because they do not want to reveal to their own selves that they have no unusual talents?

If this is so, what would you call it?

Leaving out the truly delusional, I think individually they all know they have no paranormal powers. They do believe others do and want to join them badly. This forum is especially easy to pull this off. They tell their tales, of say astral projection, fully knowing they're false. Yet, others reading them are sure they're true. You're right about the test, they each know they can't pass and to continue believing must make excuses for themselves and others. I call them silly and fibbers, so as not to be too mean.

of course. it is for that 15 seconds of fame, if you will. to be different and 'seen' and not to feel like a 'loser' common person. not realizing they are already special, in their own way, but they choose to propagate the fallacy because they sometimes even fool themselves.

I would call them liar but basically all human gain paranormal skill only the level of sharpeness is different in each person. One person can have very strong but some are very weak
