Any thoughts?
I think its because people want life and death to be written in black and white, and get scared to death when they see any grey.
Few examples of what I'm talking about:
UFOs.
Seems there are a lot of peope seeing these lights that appear inside clouds, then shoot off too fast to be a helicopter or plane. Never seen a UFO myself, but I know 2 POLICE OFFICERS who responded to a call, and saw this same phenomenon. Think about that. Two cops (the ultimate skeptics and disbelievers of the paranormal) saw these lights in the sky that hovered for a while, then shot away, and two people called the police to report the lights.
Not sure if I believe we are getting visits from aliens, but a lot of people I know claim to have seen UFOs. Completely normal people, not ever 'believers' really, but I can honestly say that most of my friends have seen a UFO of some kind. It just doesn't get talked about, for obvious reasons. If they locked up everyone who claimed to have seen a UFO for being crazy, they'd have to lock up half the population.
And even if you discount 90% of these sightings as 'explainable', that still leave a hell of a lot of room for weirdness.
Ghosts/Spirits:
A while ago I answered someone's question about Ouija boards with an 'experience' I had, and got disbelief and scorn in response. Haven't been on the receiving end of the skeptic fence before, but I have to say I feel for people who've had experiences so weird they cant talk about it. Its easy to see why.
It sucks to tell somebody something you KNOW is true, and have them respond by calling you a liar, insane, or just throw insults at you because its easy. It sucks to know that absolutely nothing you say will get around people's suspicion, disbelief, and rationalizations.
The only way to get people to talk about it is to admit you've had some kind of similar experience yourself. Its kind of sad. So many eyewitnesses living in fear because of something they saw. People should be able to talk about the weird things that happen to them. My opinion anyways.
