I have been diagnosed with hypothroid with levels at 50. I am in chronic pain in all my joints and muscles. I cannot move, get up, or use my hands for even menial tasks without opioid painkillers. Even then it is extremely difficult. I am at my whits end. Can my condition cause this much pain, or should i be looking into different diagnoses? Please don't tell me to just ask my doctor. I will, but i would also like input from the yahoo answers community. Thank you in advance.

Yes, it absolutely can, especially in Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It takes time to gradually increase the Synthroid dose to get you to a point at which the joint and muscle issues abate. You also MUST be treated by a Board Certified Endocrinologist because only they will be comfortable providing you with adequate thyroid hormone. Many other doctors undershoot the needed dose and it MUST be increased gradually to protect your heart.. Please ask your endocrinologist if she could consider the possibility of adding Liothyronine tab. to your daily Synthroid. This way you would have both T3 and T4 supplementation, and this can be particularly helpful to those with joint, hand, shoulder, and knee discomfort.
Your endocrinologist will also be monitoring you for other disorders. Very best wishes.

I recently read that fluoride in tap water causes thyroid problems and filters like brita and put won't remove it. Showering will expose to to sodium fluoride as well. Try showering and drinking fluoride free water and it may help thyroid.
