3) for a woman considering to have a family -- i would NOT advise to specialize in anything -- unless you can manage it -- by say not marrying another doctor.

Wrong approach. You have to do what you love. You can't possibly know what you love until you are a medical student.

Example: I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician, right up until I did my clinical rotation in peds. I hated it. I'd rather dig ditches than be a pediatrician. No offense to those that choose that path; they would probably hate what I do.

I had one kid a month before starting med school, one during residency, and one a few months after finishing my residency. You can work that in, so childbearing shouldn't impact your specialty choice.

As for hours, I'd just suggest that you steer clear of the surgical specialties, because they tend to be more brutal. However, if that is what you end up loving, you'll do it. I have friends who are female and surgeons and have kids.

You have preconceived notions of what constitutes an easy practice, but in reality, they are ALL difficult and time consuming. Dermatologists may see 75 patients a day. Some family docs do obstetrics as, so they get called at all hours for that.

If you are primarily concerned about how much time you WON'T be working, skip medicine. Otherwise, worry about specialty choice when it actually matters.
