Alprozolam is generic for Xanax.

Xanax is in the family of drugs known as benzodiazpenes. Benzodiazepenes are used for treatment for insomnia, certain anxiety disorders including panic attacks.

Benzodiazepenes have a high potential for addiction and abuse, for this reason, they are often not prescribed for a period more than 3 months. They are, arguably, the most abused class of prescription drugs in America.

Xanax has one of the shortest half-lives of all benzodiazepenes. This means its effects are more powerful and last for shorter period of time. This is why Xanax is the most abused benzodiazpene in America and is diffucult to obtain a prescription for.

Xanax is given to insomniacs due to its EXTREMELY POWERFUL hypnotic effects. Xanax induces drowsiness and amnesia in almost all of it's users. This is a contributing factor as to why Xanax is often used as a date-rape drug.

Xanax is given to anxiety suffers due to it's noted calming effects. Xanax is extremely helpful during a panic attack or times of high anxiety. It is not a permanent solution, and should not be used regularly, as addiction will be the result.

Withdrawal from benzodiazpenes are horrible. Symptoms include seizures, shaking, possible coma, deliriums, depression, panic attacks among other things. You DO NOT want to become addicted to Xanax, coming off is pure hell.

Its best to stay away from Xanax unless your anxiety is extreme and panic attacks are common - it's not a permanent fix and shouldn't be used for more than 3 months.

Overdose on Xanax (along with other benzodiazepenes) ALONE are very uncommon. Most overdoses from Xanax are when it has been taken with other drugs such as alcohol, stimulants, and opiates.
