If you could be genetically tested for a debilitating disease (for free), would you do it

If you had the opportunity to be tested for a genetic disease, would you want to know the results? Why? All opinions are welcome, there is no right or wrong answer (however if you can provide three points to your opinion I will choose it as best answer)

Yes. For the following reasons.

1.) It can help inform me of my medical history and give me the knowledge of medical conditions that are prevalent and existent in my family.

2.) It can help inform me on my decision on whether or not I will have children. If I am a carrier for a rehabilitating disease (like Tay-Sachs) and the risk of me passing it on to my offspring is high - then I may decide not to have biological children.

3.) It's free - there is no potential downside to what the offer you have given me. Knowledge is power - why decide to live in ignorance of my genetic structure?

Type 1 diabetes is very common in my family - I had a genetic-screening to see if I am a carrier. The results showed negative and MOST LIKELY, my future children will not have Type-1 diabetes. Now I can put that thought to rest of me, or my potential children form ever suffering from that disease.

Not now because I'm old but I would if I were younger and planned to have a family. I'd want to know what I'm possibly passing on to my offspring.

Yes..It would be handy to be ready and prepared if you knew some crappy disease was coming.
