the problem is 5x+2/4=x+1 (it should look like a fraction, like 5x+2 OVER 4,x=.the teacher gave me the answer, he just needs me to show the process but Im stuck, help please!......
Ok, I need help one more time. I understand the whole process, but I keep getting the wrong answer. What am I doing wrong?? the problem is 5x+2/4=x+1 (it should look like a fraction, like 5x+2 OVER 4, I just don't know how to put it here)

An so far I got:
5x+2=4+x (because I multiplied everything by 4)
5x-x=4-2
4x=2
x=2/4
x=.5 or 1/2
where x should be x=2
the teacher gave me the answer, he just needs me to show the process but I'm stuck, help please!!

-
5x+2/4=x+1
4(5x+2/4)=4(x+1)
on the right side after you multiply by 4 it should be 4x+4 so
5x+2=4+4x
5x-4x=4-2
x=2
you just need make sure you distribute correctly

If x is 2, like your teacher said, then the equation is 5x2+2 divided by 4. 5x2=10. 10+2=12. 12 divided by 4 is 3. 3=2+1, and 2 is x. It makes sense. I would do it that way. I am nowhere near algebra or calculus in school yet, cause I'm only in Grade 7, but that is how I would do it. I wouldn't multiply it all by 4. I would substitute x with different numbers until I got the answer, getting (hopefully) closer every guess.

Hope it helps!

the mistake is here in this step:

5x+2=4+x (because I multiplied everything by 4) it should be

5x+2 = 4+4x
