What is the surface are of a rectangular prism. 10 pts for BA

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-11-15] [Hit: ]
You already have the height.Now you have the l, w and h of your prism.Total surface area 480 + 32 = 512 cm^2-There is a piece of information missing.........
Volume of the prism = 480 cu cm
height of the prism = 30 cm

Please indicate the steps to obtain the ans.

10 pts will be given for BA

If it is a rectangular prism whose height is 30, then you can assume that it has a square base. At least that is the easiest way to look at it.

So you need to find the length and the width. You already have the height.

The vol of amy regular prism is found by V = l x w x h

Substituting what you know already

480 = l x w x 30

480/30 = l x w

16 = l x w

Since l and w are the same then the dimension of each are 4 cm

Now you have the l, w and h of your prism.

Surface area is

4 x 4 x 2 sides = 32

4 x 30 x 4 sides = 480

Total surface area 480 + 32 = 512 cm^2

There is a piece of information missing...

Area=2*L*W+2(L+W)*H

(where: L = length, W = width, H=height)

Volume = LWH
480=LW*30

therefore, LW=16

Area = (2*16)+2(L+W)*30
= 32+60(L+W) cm^2

-
Volume = LxWxH
plug in known values.
480= LxWx30.

480/30=LxW
16= LxW

just as a guestimate. 4x4 = 16?
L=4
W=4
H=30

surface area is the sum of the surface area of all the sides.
(4x30)x4 + (4x4)x2 = 512 sq cm.
(WxH)x4sides + (LxW)x2sides

-
is the base a square ?

assume it's a square of side x , then :

V = base area x h

=> base area = V / h = 16 cm^2

so its side length x = sqrt(16) = 4 cm

so the surface area = 2 x (base area) + base perimeter x h

.............................= 2 x 16 + 4 (4) x 30

.............................= 32 + 480

.............................= 512 cm^2 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
