I need some homework help! ( / is a fraction line ) so i understand how to get something like: x/2 = 7 you just go (2)x/2 they cancel eachother out and then 7 (2) which is 14. So x = 14. But how would I do x/2 = x/3 + 5. Another example is x/4 = x/5 - 1. how can i do those? and how can I check if they're right?
Please help!

x/2 = x/3 + 5
-x/3 -x/3
x/2 - x/3 =5
multipy by common denominator (6)
3x - 2x = 30
x=30
x/4 = x/5 - 1
-x/5 -x/5
x/4 - x/5= -1
5x - 4x = -20
x=-20
you can check your answer by placing your result for x back into the original equation so
1) 30/2 = 30/3 +5
15 = 10 + 5
15 = 15
2) -20/4 = -20/5 -1
-5 = -4 - 1
-5 = -5
-x/3 -x/3
x/2 - x/3 =5
multipy by common denominator (6)
3x - 2x = 30
x=30
x/4 = x/5 - 1
-x/5 -x/5
x/4 - x/5= -1
5x - 4x = -20
x=-20
you can check your answer by placing your result for x back into the original equation so

-5 = -4 - 1
-5 = -5

You can subtract the x's from each other:
So x/2 - x/3 = x/3 + 5 - x/3
Then you find a common denominator, in this case 6.
x/2 (3/3) - x/3 (2/2) = 5
3x / 6 - 2x/6 = 5
x/6 = 5
x/6 (6) = 5(6)
x = 30
So x/2 - x/3 = x/3 + 5 - x/3
Then you find a common denominator, in this case 6.
x/2 (3/3) - x/3 (2/2) = 5
3x / 6 - 2x/6 = 5
x/6 = 5
x/6 (6) = 5(6)
x = 30
