Skookum say: Earth and other planets don't have tops or bottoms because they are spherical. It would be like saying a plain white ball has a top and bottom. However, when a planet is mapped, we can talk about north and south based on how the poles are designated. Unfortunately, a lot of people confuse top and bottom (or up and down) with north and south. Try not to do that.

RR say: World maps usually show Australia in the bottom half. However, it is just a convention. If today's civilisation started in the southern hemisphere, maps might have been inverted.
