The cytosol is the fluid part of the cytoplasm. The cytosol suspends organelles, enzymes and other proteins, inclusions, etc., and allows substances to diffuse through the cell. Some cells also set the cytosol in motion (cytoplasmic streaming), which carries materials throughout the cell more quickly.

It really just suspends proteins and carbohydrates inside the cell, a lot of metabolism happens in the cytosol. carbohydrates are broken down to provide energy and amino acids are used to manufacture proteins.
