They are as few people said part of the food chain, the larvae is food for fish & other water living creatures and water insects, and the flying mozzie is a meal for bats, spiders & birds etc.

Their primary function after being food is to spread disease, make peoples lives a misery especially if your allergic to them. Only the female mosquito bites as they have a longer proboscis, spreading all sorts of diseases & virus to millions of people world wide. The male has a much shorter proboscis, so they only feed on nectar's.

It only takes ONE bite to spread a disease or virus.

It was a mozzie that bit me either late last year or early this year that I got Ross River Fever, which has made me very well for the last four months. I hate them with passion and as I am also allergic I try to do the right so I am not bitten, obviously one got me.

Strictly speaking, their only purpose is to make more mosquitoes--that's it. Certainly there are effects that their presence has on their environment and other organisms, but those have little to do with any so-called "purpose." If they can indeed be said to have one, it is simply to keep the species going through continued reproduction. As long as they can compete successfully in their particular niche, then they will serve that purpose, and will continue on. Now if you're really asking about the ROLE they have been found to play in ecosystems, that's a different question, but one you did not ask..

Mosquitoes don't have to justify their existence. They are there because they are successful at exploiting a food source which includes many other land animals on Earth. They are eaten because they are plentiful and are a source of nourishment for many other animals, including those that are their food source. They are also used by other parasites to reproduce, such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever etc.

They are food for many other animals in nature (birds,bats,reptiles,e.t.c.)

Actually I think God might have made a mistake when he created the mosquito.

-
They help to make us dislike flies less.
