The universe is made up of atoms?......

The universe is made up of atoms?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
Sky say: Atoms, photons, energy, subatomic particles, and whatever the stuff commonly called dark matter and dark energy are. Some even hypothesize that down at the Planck length it's made up of vibrating strings of energy, although we have no means of observing and studying anything down at that tiny a scale.
-
Ronald 7 say: Everything is
Even Space is full of Atoms
-
John say: Quarks and energy, actually. If there are sub-quarks we aren't yet advanced enough to discover them.
-
Poseidon say: Thank you for your comment.

Now what's the question?
-
Tom S say: The matter in the universe is yes, at least the "normal matter". Not sure yet about the "dark matter".
-
Adullah M say: All atoms come from 88 elements that exist naturally in its stable states as on our earth.
-
hoarseman say: And they are made up of more fundamental "particles" whose behaviours are described by (energy) waves -- which seem to be what the whole universe consists of .

Frankly -- we don't know what we are dealing with -- we simply do our best to describe , then label it .
-
E say: Yes
-
Hi_Satan say: Yes, and discarded paper clips
-
roy say: Of vacuum.
-
Climate Realist say: Actually, it probably has more dark matter than atoms.
-
Who say: the stuff IN the universe is -

the gaps between the stuff aint - thats just empty space
(and by "empty" I mean absolutely nothing in it (apart from a few atoms here and there - "space" is virtually an absolute vacuum))

(And atoms themselves are 99.998% empty space
you wanna get a quick estimate then calculate the volume of the hydrogen nucleus and the volume of the hydrogen atom and compare them (both are available on wikipedia)
the difference between them is empty space
(I know all atomic nuclei and atoms are bigger than the hydrogen so the %age will be different for each - but it gives you a handle on how "empty" an atom is))

(you COULD say that cos the universe is SOOO big and there is so little "stuff" in it as regards actual space the stuff occupies - then the universe probably has a far higher %age of "empty space" than an atom (and even more if an atom is regarded as virtually empty space
This was just a thought that crossed my mind - But it might be interesting to try to get an estimate (cos you would have to make a lot of assumptions) , cos it would give some idea how "empty" the universe is

Just think - you look at the sun or moon and you dont see what you think you see cos 99.998 % of it is empty space -
that is- "99.99% of it what you see aint actually solid stuff , it just looks like it is)
-
AdamTheAtheist say: Not the whole Universe. Just matter.
-
Bill-M say: Yes and so are you.
-
Morningfox say: Only partly. The universe is about 4.6% atoms, 24% dark matter, and 71.4% dark energy. There are some small amounts of electromagnetic radiation and antimatter, maybe 0.01%. Some reports say 4.9% atoms, 26.8% dark matter, and 68.3% dark energy.

Even for the atoms, roughly 90% of them are a thin hydrogen gas outside of the galaxies. There is lots and LOTS of space outside of galaxies.
-
busterwasmycat say: More of the universe is made up of lack of atoms, I would say.
-
CarolOklaNola say: Yes along with molecules energy and lots and lots of not total vacuum and dark matter and dark energy.
