As a civil engineer, I can design plumbing systems, I understand how the parts are manufactured (and how they could still be made without modern technology), etc. Pretty much everything up to the point of the parts being delivered to you for use. Even without my education, I can and have done plenty of plumbing at my home - quite frankly, it's not that hard.
