how do vets know how to cure certain animals?
There are thousand and thousands of animals. I m not talking about dogs, cats or ranch animals. I m talking about alligators, lions, elephants, even fish. How do vets know how to exactlyxure each and everyone of them, including exotic ones?

Thomas E say: Study, trial, error. No-one knows everything, and even geniuses are still learning. Sometimes a 'routine' procedure turns out hard, and vice-versa. Life is a challenge, not 'cut-and-dried'. Best wishes.

oikoσ say: They extrapolate from what they have learned about related animals. If you can treat a problem in a dog,you can treat it in a fox. If you can treat a problem in a cow, you can treat the same thing in a water buffalo. If all else fails, you either refer the patient to a specialist or you do the best you can.

MARK say: No all vets treat all kinds of animals. Vets often specialise and learn more about the group of animals they want to work with after they qualify from vet school. There is a lot of help and information out there for vets if they are unsure how to treat a particular animal. They have access to textbooks, the primary literature, databases, the expertise of other vets, etc. Very often a vet has to simply watch and see. Does the animal recover without any intervention. If this is not going to happen the vet has to work on the signs he/she can observe. A vet cannot ask a non-human animal for symptoms. Very often they respond by treating the symptoms.

John say: most vets only know how to care for a few species. that's why it's important to make sure that there are exotic vets in your area before buying an unconventional pet like a fox, a normal vet does not know how to treat them. vets go to college to learn about the animals they're going to care for. the knowledge of how to care for various species is accumulated through trial and error of trying to help sick or hurt animals. they don't always make it, but vets can learn from their mistakes so they don't repeat them.
