No, its too harsh of an enviroment. The only moon we may ever colonize is Europa and that's highly unlikely, but not exactly. Mars will be the destination if we ever do colonize a planet. There's actually a private funded group that plans on going there, will they go through with total isolation and minor supplies is the real test. As for funding, that will be a long shot, the government doesn't understand the tremendous capabilities space exploration can have for mankind and our future. One day it will save our lives I guarantee it.

I think we've already started to "colonize" it, in a manner of speaking. But on a mass scale where there are average, ordinary, non-astronaut/non-professional scientist types living there and raising families? Eh, it's possible. Using as a benchmark for defining the moon as officially "colonized" the first human to be born on the moon, I'd say we could probably call it "colonized" within the next 100-150 years. It -may- be within this century, but I doubt it.

Not if the Republicans have anything to say about it. If it was funded by a third party, we have the technology to do something of that variety, but is it likely that a third party would be willing to do that or that the government would be willing to fund it within the century, no.

Can you grow food crops with a day length that lasts 336 hours of light and then 336 hours of dark? Did you know that the amount of energy needed to keep plants alive with artificial light exceed the amount of energy you can get from them as food by a very long way? What about water for them?

Where's the water, air and food going to come from? What about the massive temperatue variations that would wreck just about any building in months? What about a continual rain of micrometeorites since there is not enough atmosphere to even burn up the sand sized ones?
