Is it normal for a star to appear to move

so its not just my eyes. I am very interested in anything that has to do with the Universe and ever since I saw it I have wondered what would cause it to look like it was moving. I did some googling and couldnt find anything on it. Some people would claim to see stars moving but none of them sounded like what I saw. And it was not an airplane because like I said it would move and then stop and also didnt have any flashing lights like a normal airplane would. I am also aware of satellites but I dont think it was one because usually satellites are only visible when the sun first sets and light from the sun reflects off the satellite,......
A few days ago I was outside looking at the stars, and I saw one that looked as if it was moving. I know the earth rotates so stars pass overhead throughout the night but this wasn't like that. A certain star appeared to be moving and it wasn't a slow movement over several minutes, it looked like it would slightly jolt in a certain direction in just a second or two and then stop and then after a little while it would do it again in a different direction(No I am not crazy and I was not drunk or on drugs). My brother and mom could see it also, so it's not just my eyes. I am also aware of satellites but I don't think it was one because usually satellites are only visible when the sun first sets and light from the sun reflects off the satellite, but when it happened it was around 10:30 PM and the sun had been down for about 4 hours. I love trying to understand things that confuse me, but I haven't had any luck figuring this one out. If anyone has an explanation I would really appreciate it if you could explain this to me.

My guess is that it was a star whose light was refracted by distortions caused by atmospheric temperature inversions.

I've seen things what you described myself.

A temperature inversion could cause a point of distant light to 'move' the width of your little finger held at arm's length.

Could of been a infinite number of things. it could be a high flying helicopter, It could be the light coming through the atmosphere, It could be balloons, lanterns, RC planes, space junk, UFO hell it could be anything. But you can guarantee that it wasn't in the "Universe" it was something within Earths atmosphere

It wasn't a star. I'm not sure what you saw, but a star to show movement like that is impossible.
