soil, dry land, also used (along with middangeard) for the (material) world (as opposed to the heavens or the underworld),Before that it was called terra which is Latin for ground and is the root of the word terrain. This comes originally from Roman mythology, the goddess Tellus who was associated with fertile soil.......
Just a random question that's been stuck in my head and it is a pretty good question

-
No one knows, since the first man was made he called the ground earth in his own language, then it was translated, and became an official name.

-
In Old English eorþe means "ground, soil, dry land," also used (along with middangeard) for "the (material) world" (as opposed to the heavens or the underworld), over time the Old English word became Earth

Before that it was called "terra" which is Latin for ground and is the root of the word terrain. This comes originally from Roman mythology, the goddess Tellus who was associated with fertile soil.

-
Probably the first person to point at the ground and say "Earth" or whatever 'dirt' or 'soil' equivalent ws used in his particular language at the time.

-
I am not really sure but I think there isn't really a definite answer to that it is probably related to either Greek or Latin in ancient times.
