If went to college for astronomy would it be likely that I wouldn't have a job

D. degrees.-Its not just astronomy. Jobs are pretty thin on the ground too.......
so there are barely any jobs out there for astronomy, I found this out after finding a site with only about 30 jobs listed for astronomy in the the U.S. could I be a professor or something?

It isn't just the current economy. This has been true FOR DECADES Being a professor is pretty much the only viable profession for some one who goes into astronomy professionally. To be a faculty member these days, a Ph.D. or Ph.D ABD (all but dissertation) is almost a requirement, but you can be hired as a part time adjunct professor with just a master's degree, or as research assistant (RA), which IS NOT A DEGRADING JOB. RA's can be pretty indispensable. They get paid pretty good (comfortable, but not fantastic) salaries to BE RA's. BTW, ONLINE universities ALSO prefer to hire people with REAL Ph.D. degrees.
