It could be the ISS it is very easy to see at night around the early morning hours around 1am plus. But maybe it isn't that, I'm no Astronomer.

Ok - a few possibilities to offer (one -very- amateur astronomer to another)
(1) You might actually be seeing satellites. Heavens_above does have 90+ % of the satellites showing up - but once in a while, a properly placed (and normally obscure) satellite can reflect light more than expected.
(2) You might be seeing airplanes - - it is next to impossible to determine the height of objects merely from seeing a single light in the sky (airplanes normally have a couple blinking (colored) lights - but they aren't always visible). I have been baffled by airplanes a couple times myself - at least -twice- misidentifying an approaching airplane as Jupiter to some Scouts... until a few minutes 'drift' revealed it as a terrestrial object, rather than celestial.
(3) Other possibilities - there are actually quite a few - but sometimes it is just about impossible (and futile) to speculate from a distance like this.
It sounds like you have a good investigative and skeptical mind - keep an eye out - the solution may present itself to you - and may turn out to be something far simpler than you expected.
...or perhaps not.... mwhaa-ha-ha-haaa!!
