Went outside yesterday late at night, and as i was coming back inside i heard a loud sreech ( not like tires ) from behind me, i turned around and there were two large circular eyes staring at me from a tree, what was staring at me? Was it an owl? Do owls screech like that?

Yes, since owls are nocturnal, that would be your best bet. They also do screech. I mean some do. Not all breeds of owl.
