This might be a dumb question but...

-You could just work from the boat and do the states you wouldnt have to go into the water sometimes and you would have life saving devices to help you and you would also have other people under that water with you.-It depends on whether you mean at a zoo or as a researcher. But yes, both swim and would require well-developed water limbs.......
should i consider being a marine biologist if im a weak swimmer?
What are the responsiblities of a marino bilogist, are they always going to be in the water?

Assuming you are not in a wheelchair and have two arms and two legs, get in the pool and swim.
If you have a enough drive to become a marine biologist surely you can learn to become a good swimmer.

You don't have to be a Johnny Weismuller or a Mark Spitz but you do have to be able to swim moderately well. When you are working in the tropics, you don't want to have a PFD on all the time in calm seas. If you are a weak swimmer, work at improving your swimming skills. Even if you are going to spend all your time in the lab, it's a good skill to have.
