Einstein and the concorde. To travel the speed of light is physically impossible.

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-11] [Hit: ]
That is faster than the earth turns, so it can out run thesun and when going east to west you arrive at a time before you left because of time zones. But,The speed of light is constant for all observers regardless of the motion of the observer. This means that if you were going the speed of light and the light from a laser was shining next to you and you could see the photons it would appear to you that the photons were passing you at 10800000000 km/hr. How is that possible?......
Physically impossible if an object were to go the speed of light the expansion would be so rapid within mere seconds said object would be bigger than the universe.

Einstein said this however I am an economics graduate and have no clue about physics. As far as i am aware the concorde broke the speed of light barrier. Can someone please help me comprehend Einsteins above statement. Thank you in advance

I will try. Concorde flys about 2000 km/hr. That is faster than the earth turns, so it can out run the sun and when going east to west you arrive at a time before you left because of time zones. But, that is not even close to the speed of light

Light moves at about 10800000000 km/hr

Now comes the heavy duty physics:

The speed of light is constant for all observers regardless of the motion of the observer. This means that if you were going the speed of light and the light from a laser was shining next to you and you could see the photons it would appear to you that the photons were passing you at 10800000000 km/hr. How is that possible? Only one way, time and space are elastic and shrink to you to make it true.

Speed of sound as others have said, not speed of light. Light takes about 9 minutes to reach us from the sun, 93 million miles away, so it would have been a fast trip from London to New York at the speed of light

Objects don't expand as they approach the speed of light. Their mass increases and they actually become shorter in the direction of travel, but should keep the same width and height . At the speed of light according to Einstein, an object would have infinite mass, and this would require infinite energy to accelerate.

There is something that can travel at the speed of light. It is electromagnetic radiation.

Concorde broke the speed of sound in air, on earth, not light.

about 300 m/s for sound on earth but light is 1 million times faster than this.

Einstein's theories are about RELATIVITY not actuality. In other words how things would appear to different observers.

They do not all see the same thing. What they each see is dependent on the relative motion of one to the other.

The ship would appear to expand according to one observer at one speed, but not according to a different observer at a different speed.

Concorde broke the speed-of-sound barrier (about 340m/s). (It wasn't the first aircraft to do this, but it was the first commercial passenger plane to do it I believe.)

The speed of light is 300,000,000 m/s !
