Thyroid?? risk&surgery..

did you have thyroid surgery or do u know someone who did. and did it go well n what did they do.
iv had it for a few years and my weight is up ad down and im thinking about getting surgery but I know it can come back(my mom says) but any help.. I don't know a lot about this but I would love to know more...

My sister had her thyroid removed and didn't have any complications with the surgery. They make an incision in your neck and go in through there. Her scar is about 2 inches long. She doesn't really care about the scar but I'm always worried about scarring so that would be a downside for me, and she has to take pills every day. Her weights stayed pretty much the same too. She lost a lot of weight but she's gained a lot back. Probably depends on the person

I assume the problem is either
- hypothyroidism, causing an enlarged thyroid (goitre) which can be surgically removed or reduced
- hyperthyroidism (enlarged, hyperactive thyroid. can be surgically removed, or controlled by medication)

in either case, with or without surgery, you need medication, for life in most cases.

One of my friends in high school had it done, he played sports and was moderately skinny the rest of his life that I knew him. However he did have to take medicine everyday. He told me he rather hated that. Basically the just of it was he was happy but hated having to take medicine, and idk but I think if he did not take it it was very dangerous.
