I have no idea what a landmark clinical trial is and can't seem to find the definition online. Can anyone explain what this is?

most people mean, a landmark clinical trail, is a medical trail, of a double blind study, that is in an area or studies something that is a reversal or at least interesting change of viewpoint from the standard view, before that trials results became known.
for example when someone did a study in which the national institutes of health decided that a certain mineral that was studied is an essential nutrient, because of the study.
that is a landmark clinical trail.
when the medical community admits or accepts something as needed for life because of the study.

How about Salk's field trials of the polio vaccine.
