Fasting is not an effective for long term weight loss. When you fast your body believes that you are starving so it slows down your metabolism in order to preserve as much fat as possible so you don't die of starvation. When your metabolism slows down your body burns fat slower. Thus, when you eat again your body will burn those calories slower than it did before your fast. As a result, you will gain weight.
