I recently got fractal laser surgery on my nose. Now before this I had surgery done on my nose when I was one. I am now fourteen. I can't smell to this day although I could when I never had surgery. But I realized when I got home that day that something was strange about the air when I breathed in deply. It was because I could smell, I tried with some spices. Although it is not completely back, is it possible the fractal laser could have awoken dormant nerves in my nose that was causing me not to smell? Sorry for the length of the question, just a lot to say about it.

Yes. Extremely rare/unlikely, but possible. Nerves are controlled by electrical currents from your brain, where tons are located. Lasers, which are similar to a brain's electrical charge, could have caused the nerves controlling smell to change or deform, or, more likely, come out of dormancy. The chances of this are astronomical, but it's possible. And congratulations, I'm glad you got your sense of smell back.

If the lack of smell was because the nerve(s) going from your nose were compressed or constricted, due to swelling of tissues or bone damage, then yes.

If the laser surgery relieved the pressure on the nerve, then it could certainly have begun working again.

Congrats!

Why is a 14-year-old getting fractal laser surgery on their nose?
