Can I stop taking penicillin if it is not necessary

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-28] [Hit: ]
I was taking Tylenol before this and it was doing sufficient work. When I woke up the next morning, I was perfectly fine. I even felt better the night of seeing the doctor.........
Okay, so I had a terrible Viral illness for 2 days that gave me a fever, headache, chills, aches, and just a terrible 2 days..anyways I went to the doctor with my friend who had the same thing and he didn't get prescribed anything but I did. I got penicillin for 10 days.
I was taking Tylenol before this and it was doing sufficient work. When I woke up the next morning, I was perfectly fine. I even felt better the night of seeing the doctor...So my question is can I stop taking the penicillin or at least take 1 a day for a few more days. I have some parties I want to go to on the weekend and I will be limited in my allowances if I take medication. (By the way, I understand not to take medication w/ alcohol..not dumb). Please let me know, thank you

It amazes me that here it is, 2011 and people are STILL taking antibiotics for a virus. Antibiotics DO NOT work on a virus, they are for bacterial infections only. That is why we have such horrible infections such as MRSA and now an even newer and more deadly one that is sweeping through the country. I can't remember the name of the latest more deadly version. All you are doing is making antibiotics worthless, bacterial infections resistant to the antibiotics when we really need them. Your dr was wrong in prescribing them in the first place and yes, if it was in fact just a virus stop taking them now. Go ahead, have that drink but make sure you have a designated driver. Or walk, taxi, etc..

ASK YOUR DOC! Don't get medical advice from random folk on the internet! Your doc might have a good reason - won't know until you ask. Some docs sadly over-prescribe cause they think it's what patients want. In the future, you can politely say you worry about over-use and ask if you really need it.

If prescribed antibiotics, you must complete the full course of medication as prescribed for the 10 days, even if your symptoms get better. If you do not complete the course, the infection has a high risk of coming back.

-
Yes, you need to complete that course and as you say ..not dumb, Then don't have alcohol cause that would disrupt things. And if you don't complete and finish your medicine, that would make your viral more resilient.

Think about the penicillin's feeling's. Maybe he wants to party too......
