-Peritonitis is inflammation of the peritoneum, which is the lining of the abdominal cavity and which holds the abdominal organs in place. One of the hallmarks of inflammation is oedema, which is the accumulation of fluid in the afflicted area. This build up of fluid, especially between the peritoneal membrane and abdominal muscles will cause this rigidity.......
