What is it? Does it represent where something starts and ends, having point a on the bottom and point b on the top?

The a and the b do tell where something starts and ends,
but the integral "adds up" all the stuff in between.
Which might be area, volume, mass, work, energy, etc, etc.

YES it is same meaning as in maths, just that in physics mostly we deal with DEFINITE INTEGRAL as you mentioned 'where something stars and ends' having a on the bottom and point b on the top'.
