The mass of solute per 100 mL of solution is abbreviated as (m/v). Mass is not technically the same thing as weight, but the abbreviation (w/v) is also common.

How many grams of sucrose are needed to make 625 mL of a 39.0% (w/v) sucrose solution?

So, 39% of 100 is 39 g

39 g of solute in 100 mL of solution is 39% (w/v)

39 is 100 as x is to 625

x = 243.75 g of solute required (round off as you see fit)
