I'm normally good at factoring, but I'm very confused. It's an online class so I can't really ask the professor for help. Can you please show me how to solve this problem?

(z-r) is common to both terms
so p^2(z-r) - 49(z-r)
= (z-r)(p^2 - 49).... now you also have a difference of squares....
= (z-r)(p+7)(p-7)
and you are finished.

(z-r)(p^2-49)=(z-r)(p+7)(p-7)
