Math please please please help???!!!!!

So the problem is I have a population of 186 million people and I'm supposed to get 1.7% of that then add it to the population to get the new population please explain to me how to do that and the equation u did to get the answer

I did 186 times 1.7% which is .017 as a decimal. I got 3.162, and then I added it to 186 to get 189.162 million people. The equation would be 186(.017) = x. Then I just added that to what I started with. Well, I hope that helps!
