You are ALREADY "crazy", my friend :)
AB = 8cm and CD = 6 cm are two equal chords
EQUAL???
You meant PARALLEL, I am sure
because if they were not parallel, the distance doesn't make sense
here is my solution

draw a circle and draw two parallel chords. From the centre draw one perpendicular line two the chords and call the distance of longer chord from the centre along the perpendicular as x. Then the distance of shorter chord from the centre is (x+1) . Join the centre to ends of both chords on the same side. write two equations using pythagoras theorem. use R for radius.
R^2 equals X^2+4^2 and R^2 equals (x+1)^2+3^2 solving these two equations give x equals 3 and R equals 5

x = distance from centre to AB
By Pythagoras
r^2 = x^2+4^2
r^2 = 3^2+(x+1)^2
x^2+16 = 9 + x^2+2x+1
2x = 6
x = 3
r^2 = 9+16 = 25
r = radius = 5 cm
