My step-brother's xbox 360 broke, so we decided to take it apart and check out the guts. I removed the internal cooling fan. It consists of 2 fans, one with blue and orange wires, one with black and red wires, and all 4 group together into the piece that used to plug into the xbox. I think it would be cool to find a way to power the fan outside of the xbox. The only problem is, I have no idea how this whole wiring thing works! I know I would have to take off the piece on the end, and somehow wire it to a portable power supply, like a battery, but I have no clue how to do so. I would like to be able to connect it to a battery of sorts, so I could carry it around!

I have no idea how this stuff works, and the only thing I could deduce from searching the internet is that the red and orange wires are the same, and the blue and black are the same... but that doesn't really help! If you don't want to explain the whole process, could you atleast link me to a webpage that explains this sort of thing? Everything I've come up with on the internet is related to big scale things, and stuff that requires outlets, etc, which doesnt help.

Thanks in advance!

You need a 12V DC power source to run these fans.
Positive 12V terminal connects to RED and/or Orange.
Negative 12V terminal connects to Black and/or Blue.
To make 12V with batteries, use 8 pieces 1.5V cell connect in series.

If the Xbox detects that the fans are missing from their connection, it will not work because these are vital components for cooling purposes.

You would have to reprogram it's basic protocol to bypass this fail safe... which is dangerous to it's functionality for someone who doesn't know what they're doing...

As far as battery power to make the whole unit portable, you would want to make one rated to the voltage on the power cord transformer, and simply purchase a cord end that matches the connection type so you can interchange between battery and power cord.

Putting a fan on the outside of the case will be less effective compared to having them mounted on the heat sinks.
You should just acquire a third fan to do what you want to do.
