85, then how many dimes and quarters are there?3. A merchant visited 3 fairs. At the first, he doubled his money,......
Please put it in algebraic method or in an equation (ex. x + 5 = 2x + 8)

1. Paul is 30 order than his son Ron. Five years ago, he was four times as old as his son was. How many years old is Ron and Paul now?

2. In a collection of coins there are 7 less dimes than there are quarters. If the value of the collection is $3.85, then how many dimes and quarters are there?

3. A merchant visited 3 fairs. At the first, he doubled his money, but spent $30 on food. At the second, he tripled his money, then spent $54 on gifts. At the third, he quadrupled his money, then spent $72. He then went home with $48. How much money did the merchant have when he visited the first fair, second fair, and the third fair?

1. let x be Ron's age.
X + 30 is Paul's age.
Five years ago,
Paul's age is x + 30 - 5
X + 30-5 = 4(x-5)
3x=45
x= 15

2. Gee, we don't use quarters and dimes here so idk the conversion, sorry :(.

3. Let the money he started off with be $x
At the first: 2x-30
2nd: 3(2x-30) - 54
3rd: 4(3(2x-30)-54) - 72 = 48
4(6x-90-54) - 72 = 48
24x - 576 - 72 = 48
24x = 696
x = 29

And you sub the values for x in :)

1. Paul is x and Ron is y ;

x - y = 30 => y = x - 30
x-5 = 4(y - 5)

x - 5 = 4 (x - 30 - 5)

x - 5 = 4x -140

135 = 3x

x = 45 (Paul)

y = 45 - 30 = 15 (Ron)

2. dime: d, quarer: q

q - d = 7 => q = d + 7

0.25q + 0.1d = 3.85

0.25(d + 7) + 0.1d = 3.85

0.25d + 1.75 + 0.1d = 3.85

0.35d = 2.1

d = 6

q = d + 7 = 13

3. (I do not quite understand your question. So the answer may not be correct!!)

supposed he has x money

1: 2x - 30
2: 3x - 54
3: 4x - 72

all together: 2x - 30 + 3x - 54 + 4x - 72 = 48

9x - 156 = 48

9x = 204

x = 22.67 (strange... though.)

-
Alright let's see.

1) 30 + r + 5 = 4r

2) q - 7 = d
q + d = 3.85

3) 2m - 30 + 3m - 54 + 4m - 72 = 48

I did my best :) not sure about #1, but 2 and 3 I'm almost positive are right!
