i don't know how to simplify polynomials. i just know how do put it in standard form

(3x^2-5x) - (x^2+4x+3)

so, my question is : how do u simplify that ?? :O p

The first thing that you want to do is distribute the negative sign in front of the second set of parenthesis. Doing that gives us
3x^2-5x-x^2-4x-3 Notice that I got rid of the parenthesis as they are no longer needed because we distributed. Also, I did not do anything to the first set of parenthesis.
So now, we have to combine like terms. Remember, you cannot add any x terms together, unless they have the same power.
So, I am going to rearrange this polynomial, so you can see what I mean.
3x^2-x^2-5x-4x-3 I have not done anything significant. For clarity reasons, I am going to put parenthesis around things that are like terms, so you can see what I mean by like terms (I do not think that I explained that very well), then I will add them together.
(3x^2-x^2)+(-5x-4x)+(-3) Do not think that I am multiplying here, I just have separated the like terms for clarity.
Now, add each set of parenthesis together.
2x^2-9x-3 And that is the simplified polynomial.
I hope that I explained this well.

Subtract the coefficients on like terms. The coefficients on the parts with x^2 are 3 and 1; 3 - 1 = 2, so 3x^2 - x^2 = 2x^2. The coefficients on the linear terms are -5 and 4; -5 - 4 = -9, so -5x - 4x = -9x. The only constant there is 3, and it's subtracted, so the whole answer is 2x^2 - 9x - 3.

-
(3x^2-5x) - (x^2+4x+3)

= 3x^2 -5x -x^2 -4x -3

= 3x^2 -x^2 -5x -4x -3

= (3-1)x^2 +(-5-4)x -3

= 2x^2 +(-9)x -3

= 2x^2 -9x -3

-
-3 - 9 x + 2 x^2
