You have to find what x and y equals:

1) 3x+4y=7
4x+2y=1
x= y =

2)2x+5y=15
3x-2y=13
x= y=

Please show working! Thank you.

-
1) Multiply the second equation by 2

3x + 4y = 7
8x + 4y =2

Take one away from another

-5x = 5
x = -1

Substitute x into any of the equations to give

y = 2.5

2) Multiply the first equation by 2 and the second equation by 5

4x + 10y =30
15 x -10y = 65

Add the equations together

19x = 95
x = 5

Substitute x into any of the above equations to give

y = 2
