g 17.Round it to the nearest decimal place(it will be easier for you), so in this case, you would round it to 17.5!Good Luck with you cooking!......
I have a recipe that says it serves eight people, however I want to make enough for five people.
How do I go about calculating the amount of ingredients I need?

E.g. 1 litre of stock / 600g risotto rice / 100g of butter
Please show your workings.

You need to work out how much serves one person. So You would do:

Stock:

/ means divide in case you didn't know

1000(g) / 8(number of people) = 125(g)
125(g) x 5(number of people) = 625(g)

Stock-625g

Risotto Rice:

600(g) / 8(number of people) = 75(g)
75(g) x 5(number of people) = 375(g)

Risotto Rice=375g

Butter:

100(g) / 8(number of people) = 12.5(g)
12.5(g) x 5(number of people) = 62.5(g)

Butter=62.5g

If you use this method, you can find out anything. You can use it for any amounts and any number of people. If you have a really long decimal e.g 17.46389375
Round it to the nearest decimal place(it will be easier for you), so in this case, you would round it to 17.5!

Hope I Helped

Good Luck with you cooking!

Divide EACH amount by EIGHT, and multiply THAT result by 5

So - 1 LITRE/8 = 625 ml - WATER

600g/8 = 75*5 = 375g - RISOTTO RICE

100g/8 = 12.5g * 5 = 62.5g - BUTTER

SORTED!!!

ENJOY ya meal!!!

-
Divide the amounts of your ingredients by eight then multiply by five.

-
I'm thinking you make 5/8 of everything, right?
